about

Over the last few years, western ultra-conservatives have successfully rebranded as the 'alt-right,' positioning themselves as the counterculture alternative to the so-called liberal mainstream. Their goal is to win people over by making it seem as though their racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic posturing is actually about freedom of speech, presumably because that sounds more appealing than what it actually is: retrograde white nationalism. Not content with lurking in the dark corners of the internet, they are doing everything they can to infiltrate popular culture, and synthwave is no exception: the appearance of the subgenres of fashwave and trumpwave should serve as a warning to all of us.

While it is true that a certain wistful attitude toward the 1980s is inherent to synthwave, this has more to do with that decade's vision of itself and the future as rendered in the films and music of the time than it does with what life was actually like back then, especially as global capitalism has made attaining those dreams practically impossible. But these conservative extremists long for their 'lost' privilege and impunity, for such leaders as Ronald Regan and Margaret Thatcher, who incidentally did more to lower living standards in the west than PC culture ever could.

In light of this, we decided to make a statement about where we stand in regard to the current political climate. It's a rallying cry for anyone on our side of the fence and a guarantee that our music will never be co-opted by bigots, whatever they might call themselves.

lyrics

Your ruse to come off as hip is too see-through
It won't win anyone's sympathy
Tainting art forms with hate isn't brand-new
It's the MO of tyranny

There's nothing Christian in what you pursue
Through blatant lies and hypocrisy
Facts and figures cannot be post-true
Whatever happened to decency?

Drown in your nostalgia
Stay where you belong
This will be our anthem:
The alt-right is wrong

You claim that all that you want is to subdue
And cure the ills in society
Instead of all the real good that you could do
You'd rather go on a killing spree

Drown in your nostalgia
Stay where you belong
This will be our anthem:
The alt-right is wrong

There's so much ignorance in your worldview
Because you simply don't want to see
The very leaders you claim will free you
Keep you living in poverty

Drown in your nostalgia
Stay where you belong
This will be our anthem:
The alt-right is wrong
